They are also useful to powder small amounts of chemicals. It has the disadvantage that it is extremely labor intensive relative to a ball mill.

WEBOct 20, 2012 · To prevent your motor from burning out I would recommend 23lb's lead and 150200g composition per jar. I personally use just over 2Lb's lead and 200g composition with a 1" drive roller in my 3Lb jars on these mills. PERFECT black powder in 2023 hours. With 150g composition in the mill it's perfect in around 14 hours.

WEBPosted February 9, 2012. I just tested using 100 1/2 inch lead ball media vs 95 nickels and 25 quarters (they took up about the same volume) the lead ball media bp was a little faster. It was milled for six hours. Although neither where clumping to badly the sides of the drum with the nickels where cleaner than the lead ball media drum.

WEBJun 14, 2021 · You can only run one jar at a time, and it will use around 75 of those balls. The stock mill runs at around 60 rpm. 90 rpm is ideal for that diameter jar. Easily done by cutting a section of vinyl tubing (Home Depot etc, a buck or two), splitting it with a knife, and sliding it over the drive rod.

I used to use a coffee grinder however the last time I milled some I resorted to a mortar and pestle instead, which was far too much work. I know ball milling is the most common for large quantities.

WEBAug 7, 2020 · The yield is lower, but the ease and speed more than makes up for it. To answer a few more questions, nozzleless rockets typically require faster fuels. Milled BP is sort of the standard. I personally don't believe a ball mill is NECESSARILY required for hot BP, but something of a comparable speed is required.

Recall that AP (and any ammonium comps) don't do well with chlorates, ever. Nitrates (KNO 3, Sr (NO 3) 2, BP) will form hygroscopic AN and risk failuresavoid priming with BPlike comps .

WEBDec 24, 2012 · As far as ball mill safety goes, the motor should be completely separated from the milling area, so that no powder can get to the motor. I also barricade my ball mill with a thick inner layer of Styro surrounded by an outer layer of concrete blocks. The least you can do is prepare for a potential accident. Edited May 9, 2013 by Ferret
